  • In 2022, 49,476 Americans died by suicide making it the 11th leading cause of death.

    • In MN and ND, it is the number one cause of death for ages 10-24, and 25-34.

  • White males accounted for 68.46% of suicide deaths in 2022.

  • 90% of those who died by suicide had a diagnosable mental health condition at the time of their death.

Early Warning Signs

  • Losing interest in things they once loved.

  • Disengagement from work, activities, taking part in social events and gatherings.

  • Increased alcohol or drug use.

  • Recklessness or a disregard for personal safety.

When to Take Action

  • If you hear someone expressing dark thoughts, especially those of self harm or taking their own life, or how the world would be better without them.

    • They might brush it off or say they are joking – it is not a joking matter.

  • If they display the above signs or are acting in such an erratic or reckless manner that you are concerned, consult the resources below.
